It was Monday morning and I was on a call with a dozen others who are my peers. Each of us helps the small business owner with their businesses in one way or the other. It was at the end of the call and we were each sharing our websites and going over how to make little improvements here and there. Time was running out and there was just enough time for one more website review, I volunteered. As my site was coming up for all to see suddenly the screen turned a maroon red with an outline of a security officer with his hand stretched out and the words of"don't precede malware danger." I was too horrified to remember exactly what it said although there was more. I was worried about my site on being destroyed plus humiliated the people on the call had seen me vulnerable I had spent hours.
I back up my blogs using a free plugin WP DB Backup. I can restore my Learn More website if anything happens. I use WP Security Scan plugin that is free to scan my blog frequently and requests that are suspicious-looking to be blocked by WordPress Firewall to secure your wordpress site.
If you're one of the ones, I might find it somewhat more difficult to crack your password. But if you're one of those ones, I might get you.
Fortunately, keeping your WordPress website up-to-date is one of the simplest things you can do. For the last few versions, the ability to install updates has been included by WordPress. Not only that, but sites are notified whenever a new update becomes available.
Can you view that folder what if you go to WP-Content/plugins? If so, upload that blank Index.html file into that folder as well so people can't view what plugins you might have. Someone can use this to get access because even if your version of WordPress is current, if you're using a plugin or an old plugin using a security hole.
There are always going to be risks being online (or even just being alive!) And it's easy to get caught up in the panic. As soon as we get caught up in the fear, we put the breaks on. This isn't a great site response. Take some common sense precautions, then forge ahead. It will need to be addressed then, if something does happen and no amount of quaking in your boots before-hand will have helped. If nothing does, all is good and you have not made yourself sick.
